LN: Tell our audience about the role your upbringing played in shaping you.

SM: I grew up in Moradabad, Uttar Pradesh, in a vibrant joint family of 10. My grandfather owned a printing press, so I was surrounded by print material from a young age. I’d grab a red pen and edit anything I could find—wedding cards, books, magazines, even newspapers! As my grandfather would pinpoint the smallest mistakes people often overlook, this early exposure made me meticulous, gave me a keen eye for detail, and shaped me into the tech writer and editor I am today.

LN: Did you ever consider a different career path?

SM: Oh, that’s quite a story. Everything interested me. In grade 9, I was particularly drawn to journalism. However, around that impressionable age, my brother’s success in cracking IIT (Indian Institute of Technology) left a strong impression on me. His achievement was celebrated not just by our family, but by the entire city. In the spirit of a friendly sibling rivalry, I asked him what it would take for me to beat him. His response? “Crack AIIMS (All India Institute of Medical Sciences).” Relatives chimed in with “You’ve got brains; use them. Become a doctor; there’s nothing more noble.”

So, after my schooling, off I went to Kota, the mecca of coaching centers, to study for pre-medical exams. But, as luck would have it, I scored better in engineering entrance exams and ended up studying Biomedical Engineering at VIT University, Vellore, and eventually found my way into technical writing.

LN: How did your career trajectory take you to LogiNext?

SM: My career started with a campus placement at Zoho as a tech writer. After two years, I moved to Mumbai and worked with Verdantis for a year. I then ventured into freelancing and explored different avenues. From event management to producing radio shows, and even pursuing a diploma in acting from Barry John Acting Studio, I’ve had a diverse journey. I had the opportunity to work with UNICEF and CINTAA (Cine and TV Artistes’ Association). When COVID-19 struck, I found myself missing technical writing and office culture. That’s when LogiNext reached out, and I embraced the opportunity.

LN: Between technical writing and your other ventures, what do you prefer?

SM: You know the saying, “Jack of all trades, master of none”? The full adage goes, “Jack of all trades is the master of none, but is still better than the master of one.” I thrive on being a jack of all trades. I don’t want to confine myself to labels or designations. I follow my heart and embrace new challenges wherever they lead me.

LN: Can you describe your journey as a technical writer at LogiNext?

SM: I have been with LogiNext for 3.5+ years now. The one thing that stands out the most about my journey at LogiNext is that it never felt monotonous. It has always been exciting, super fun, and full of new challenges. I have never felt “settled”, and that is a good thing. When I first joined LogiNext, my responsibilities included newsletters and feature articles. Over time, my role expanded significantly. I started managing a team of writers and took on responsibilities such as UI content, product tour videos, API and webhook documentation, webinars, onboarding emails, internal tech articles, and more. The scope kept growing and it’s been an exhilarating journey so far!

LN: What does a technical writer do?

SM: A tech writer’s role revolves around transforming complex technical concepts and information into clear, user-friendly documentation. This includes writing user guides, release notes, and more, that enable users to understand and effectively use products or services. They often collaborate closely with subject matter experts and designers. Ultimately, their goal is to bridge the gap between technical complexity and user comprehension, enhancing the overall user experience.

As Charles Bukowski says, “An intellectual says a simple thing in a hard way. An artist says a hard thing in a simple way.” A tech writer embodies this dual role by first delving deeply into technical intricacies, mastering them thoroughly as an intellectual. They then transition into the role of an artist, skillfully crafting clear and straightforward documentation that enables users to understand and effectively utilize the product or service. This approach ensures that the documentation not only maintains technical accuracy but also enhances the overall user experience through clarity and accessibility.

LN: Any advice for aspiring technical writers?

SM: Well, if you’re working for a company like LogiNext, with a product that is so robust and has so many features and functionalities, it is crucial to stay curious and absorb knowledge from everywhere—conversations, meetings, interactions—like a sponge. Keep your eyes and ears open. Not everything you need to know will be handed to you, so be proactive. Document meticulously and always keep learning. This approach will enrich your knowledge and expertise and impact your performance greatly.

LN: What are your best memories at LogiNext?

SM: So many incredible memories come to mind. Trips to the Maldives and Greece are at the top of the list. Another standout memory is organizing the “Content Heist” event, where the entire company was divided into teams and tasked to write articles. It was gratifying to see everyone appreciate and understand the dedication involved in technical writing.

LN: What’s the best advice you’ve given or received?

SM: Let me start by saying that I give great advice. It’s often said that advice is seldom welcomed, especially by those who need it most. Despite this, I continue giving away my pearls of wisdom for free.

One of the best pieces of advice I’ve received recently is, ‘’Don’t dream, set goals.’’ As a writer, I tend to overthink. This advice was a wake-up call to take action and not just keep dreaming.

LN: What are your hobbies and interests outside of work?

SM: I have a deep love for acting and singing. Additionally, I’m trained in Kathak dance and enjoy playing the Tabla. I also find joy in composing poetry and participating in open mic evenings where I recite my work. Reading is another cherished passion. However, like many in our generation, I usually end up spending most of my free time binge-watching content.

LN: Any favorite books or movies to recommend?

SM: The Harry Potter book series has been a huge part of my life. Taking the Warner Bros. Studio Tour in London was a bucket list item I got to tick off. For movies, I adore Les Misérables. It’s a beautiful musical set during the French Revolution with incredible performances and music. It’s inspiring and deeply moving.

Stuti Mehrotra's Hobbies and Interests

LN: If you could have a superpower, what would it be?

SM: I recently rewatched The Vampire Diaries. In their universe, vampires can flip a switch that makes them lose their connection to humanity, allowing them to do as they please. I’d love to have a similar switch in my head to turn off human emotions temporarily and become robotic when needed. It could supercharge one’s productivity. Being able to switch off distractions and work efficiently, then switch back to enjoying life, would be an amazing superpower.

LN: Any final thoughts or messages for our audience?

SM: Pursue excellence in whatever you do. Mediocrity leads to dissatisfaction. Balance is important, but so is fulfilling your ambitions. Whatever you choose to do, give it your all!
